The 15th annual Memory of the 8 is a community event held to remember and honor the 8 University of Wyoming Cross Country runners who lost their lives in an accident caused by a drunk driver 24 years ago and to remind the community of the dangers of impaired driving.The event includes a 5K Walk/Run, an 8-Mile run, and a Kids Run, beginning and ending at M&K Oil, 901 S. 4-J Rd. in Gillette. Registration is free and can be done online at: runsignup.com/Race/WY/Gillette/Memoryofthe8Gillette or on-sight beginning at 4:00 the day of the event. A barbecue and social time will be held after the run. Donations are accepted and shirts and hats will be available for purchase.
Cheyenne Audubon members invite the public for a free tour of Audubon projects at Lions Park and birdwatching Sept. 16, at 6 p.m. Meet in Lions Park at the parking lot between the Children’s Village and the picnic shelter and be prepared to walk a mile around the lake, or less, if preferred. Lions Park is a Wyoming Important Bird Area. Recent Audubon projects include installing IBA signs, designing interpretive signs and encouraging native plant growth in unmown areas. Cheyenne Audubon members invite anyone interested in birds, no matter their birdwatching skills, to join them on a free birding walk at the Wyoming Hereford Ranch Sept. 20 beginning at 9 a.m. until about noon. A variety of resident and migrating birds is expected. The group will leave the Lions Park parking lot between the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens’ Children’s Village and the picnic shelter at 9 a.m. Carpooling should be available. WHR is about a ten-mile drive east on I-80. We expect to hike a mile or two over sometimes rough ground before returning to the vehicles. Bring water and dress for variable weather. Bring binoculars if you have them. Powder River Basin Resource Council invites our members and friends to the 2025 Harvest Festival & Potluck! The event is at Kearney Hall on Saturday, Sept. 20. Festivities begin at 3:30 and conclude at 7:00. We will have local music, local foods including a BBQ Berkshire pig, and a pie auction!
The event is free. Donations at the door are welcomed.

Japan Festival 2025 will take place on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from noon to 4 PM at Laramie High School in Laramie, Wyoming. Free and open to the public, the festival features K-12 friendly activities, traditional Japanese music, martial arts demonstrations, and drumming by Denver Taiko. Attendees can also enjoy craft and booth activities during breaks, as well as purchase food from Niko Sushi.
