Nearly 50 invited artists are given one day to create new masterpieces en plein air (outside). They paint from the National Museum of Wildlife Art’s Sculpture Trail with stupendous views overlooking the National Elk Refuge. All visitors are welcome to watch the painters, and collectors are invited to browse and bid on the fresh artworks. All proceeds will benefit the Museum and participating artists. Enjoy free admission from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Two participation categories for the artists: plein air and al fresco
The plein air category allows artists to paint any regional scene of their choice, and they may begin their painting anywhere in the vicinity. All artists will be on the Sculpture Trail by 10 a.m. to finish their piece live and in person. Al fresco is interpreted more broadly, where artists enjoy painting outside using reference photos of any subject. The “Best in Show” award winner will be picked from the plein air category, while the al fresco category is not judged.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is observed annually on June 15 to raise global awareness about the abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older adults. It serves as a call to action for communities to promote dignity, safety, and stronger support systems for the aging population

Join the Sheridan Community Land Trust for a field trip to the Battle of the Rosebud 150th Anniversary Commemoration at Rosebud Battlefield State Park on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Hosted by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks in partnership with tribal nations and community participants, the daylong commemoration honors the 150th anniversary of the Battle of the Rosebud through ceremony, remembrance, and cultural traditions. Morning events begin at 10 a.m. and include a keynote speaker and wreath-laying honoring all who fell during the battle. Tribal riders arriving on horseback from Trail Creek, a reenactment of “Where the Girl Saved Her Brother,” a Victory Dance, and a community meal will follow later in the day.
This Explore History program is an opportunity to respectfully experience history in the place where it happened, while learning about the continuing cultural significance of the battlefield and the people connected to it.Sheridan Carpool Option

The commemorative events are free and open to the public. A community meal will be served at approximately 3 p.m.
