UW Trustees Approve Staff Salary Adjustment

UW Board of Trustees June 13, 2018 Report

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees approved close to a $500 million budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1. That budget includes a $5.5 million allocation for salary adjustments. Eligible staff will see a pay bump in their August paycheck.

This is the first salary increase in three years, and UW spokesperson Chad Baldwin said offering competitive wages is critical to the university’s future.

“President Nichols recognized when she arrived here that this is something that a good, high-performing university provides: regular compensation increases for its employees, particularly for its high performing employees.”

Baldwin added the salary adjustment fits with the university’s strategic plan, which includes an effort to “build human capital by enhancing workplace conditions to competitively recruit and retain employees, and encourage innovation and commitment, and so a pay increase is one way to address that.”

UW’s Human Resources Department is conducting a job-by-job market evaluation to help determine how much to increase salaries. Staff who’ve been with the university for a year or more, and who are meeting expectations will be eligible for a salary adjustment.
