Wind River Cares

The new Wind River Cares Dialysis Center in Riverton opened its doors to patients earlier this month. The location aims to address health care shortages for those with kidney disease in a more rural part of the state.

This series will bring you breaking news and short updates from throughout the state.Indian Health Service director Roselyn Tso toured Wind River Family & Community Health Care clinics in Riverton and Arapahoe earlier this week.The IHS is the main federal health care provider for Native peoples throughout the U.S. However, the Northern Arapaho Tribe has operated Wind River Family & Community Health Care independently of IHS since 2016.

The pump failed last Friday and the Arapahoe Community Water system is still under a water advisory. Residents are told to boil their water for 3 minutes before use to prevent disease. Clinic will open Monday.

Many tribes in the U.S. have higher vaccination rates than other ethnic groups. For some reservations, that number is as high as 95 percent. And high vaccination rates aren't the only way indigenous communities have been aggressive in combating COVID-19.
