Teton County Commissioner Selected For Prestigious Leadership Program

Lindley Rust

Natalia Macker was just re-elected for another four years as the chairwoman of the Teton County Board of Commissioners. Just after the new year she found out that she was selected to be one of the 24 Rodel fellows.

"I was quite surprised, a little bit speechless," said Macker when she received the phone call.

The Rodel Public Leadership Fellowship is a nongovernmental, nonpartisan education and leadership development program for American leaders. Past participants in the program include sitting governors and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. Macker said she is excited to apply what she will learn to her community.

"I'm eager to have an opportunity to take a very high level view, said Macker. "And think about how work that we might do at the local level fits into broader principles at a state level or at a national level," Macker said.

She said she keeps hearing from the community about the want and need to connect with people and not be afraid of our differences.

"So, an opportunity to connect with people from all over the country to learn about their experiences and understand how we all fit into the quilt that is democracy in our nation, I think it's an exciting opportunity," she said.

Macker will participate in three in-person meetings with the other fellows once health and safety precautions allow. She is the first elected official in Wyoming to be selected for this fellowship.
