A bill that would have protected Wyoming journalists from being subpoenaed to reveal their anonymous sources has failed in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The bill had passed the House with clarifications that included exceptions to the law and the definition of who is considered a journalist.
However, members of the Senate Judiciary Committee were not satisfied. Rock Springs Sen. John Kolb said he is uncomfortable with the bill's lack of consequences if a journalist were to misuse their responsibilities.
"I am in favor of a shield law. I don't have any issues with it, I think it serves a great purpose in trying to get data and information, but I'm concerned about the lack of consequence. I'm sorry. Maybe I'm a skeptic," Kolb said.
Wyoming is one of only two states without a shield law.
