Yellowstone National Park may add more seasonal housing for their employees and is seeking public comment on a proposal. This comes after Yellowstone Lodges built five new lodging facilities in Canyon Village, which increased the guest capacity to about 2,200 people per night.
"The increase in guest capacity and services really prompted the need for additional front line and supervisory employees for the concessioners…so to alleviate overcrowding in the dormitories for concession staff at Canyon," said Morgan Warthin, the spokesperson for Yellowstone National Park.
The proposal offers two options. One is to do nothing. And the second is to build 25 RV sites and a bathhouse near the West Entrance and redevelop an abandoned loop in Canyon Village for seasonal employees.
"The next steps will be an environmental assessment of the project that will be completed by the spring of 2019 and that will involve reviewing the public comments that are received," said Warthin.
Warthin said an actual decision on the project will likely happen early summer of 2019. The public comment period for the proposal closes on February 28.
