Temporary DMV Office Coming To Mammoth Hot Springs

WYDOT

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is working with Yellowstone National Park to set up a temporary DMV office, at least once a year, at Mammoth Hot Springs so that more Yellowstone workers will have access to a Wyoming registration.

Under state law, seasonal workers are required to purchase temporary registration permits for their vehicles. This includes Yellowstone National Park employees. WYDOT says by having a temporary office at Mammoth Hot Springs, more people will comply with state law.

Bill Panos, director of WYDOT, said the decision to have a temporary DMV office at Mammoth Hot Springs started with a simple question: how can it better assist full-time workers getting registered?

“Now, [Yellowstone workers] would have to drive from Mammoth Hot Springs all the way to Park County and all the way back taking almost an entire day to get a driver’s license, vehicle registration or a license plate,” said Panos.

Initially, the temporary office was meant for full-time workers, but WYDOT realized it’s also a solution in helping seasonal workers comply with the law.

“Later in the conversation, there were some folks that brought up an existing state law which requires seasonal workers to have a temporary permit. And so, we helped with that as well by providing educational and other information,” said Panos.

WYDOT is still working with Yellowstone to decide the best dates to have the DMV at Mammoth Hot Springs.
