Shepard Symposium on Social Justice

Judy Shepard’s son, Matthew, was killed more than 25 years ago in an anti-gay hate crime. Wyoming Public Radio's Chris Clements spoke to Shepard recently about receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her advocacy, and the work Wyoming still needs to do to prevent the kind of violence that led to her son’s death.

The Shepard Symposium on Social Justice is an annual event held at the University of Wyoming. It hopes to bring attention to inequities still experienced today and find solutions. Dr. Anne Guzzo was asked by the conductor of this year’s music show to compose a piece of music in honor of Matthew Shepard.
