The 2024 Native Youth Olympics were held in Anchorage, Alaska and attracted athletes in the 7th through 12th grades from across the state. They tested their skills in 11 different competitions such as the scissor broad jump, Eskimo stick pull, and one-hand reach.

Betsy Gaines Quammen is the author of a new book titled "True West: Myth and Mending on the Far Side of America." The book explores polarization, extremism, and the impact of the pandemic on the landscapes and communities of the West. Wyoming Public Radio’s Hannah Habermann spoke with Quammen about what she learned in the process of writing the book.

The country's first national monument has implemented the voluntary closure since 1996 to honor the cultural and religious celebrations of Indigenous peoples, of which 26 tribes hold Devils Tower as significant in their cultural or religious beliefs. It's led to a significant decline in climbers scaling the tower during June among the thousands of visitors that climb each year.

April is Deaf History Month. The objective is to raise awareness of Deaf and hard-of-hearing people’s struggles and highlight inclusivity and equal opportunities in a hearing society. However, there are no plans to officially observe the month in Wyoming.

A new mural is being painted by Francisco Saldaña Perez, who graduated from Jackson Hole High School and lives in Tlaxcala, Mexico. This winter he returned to Jackson to work, to see his mother and to paint a nearly 100-foot mural for the town.

The OSPA Wyoming tour is performing at the Rockpile Museum on Jan. 5 and will also perform in Sheridan, Buffalo, Casper, Laramie, Cheyenne, Rock Springs, and Jackson. The band promotes traditional and contemporary Basque music and dance and celebrates the mixed musical heritage of the Basque diaspora, which has a presence in parts of Wyoming and the Mountain West.
