The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is offering a women only Hunter Education course in Laramie. The class will take place March 5 and 6 with a field day March 7.
Nationally, the number of men hunting is declining, but in Wyoming, more and more women are getting into the sport. This course is the latest of recent women only courses offered by the Game and Fish.
"We're finding a surge or a growth more with women who are trying to get out there. And a lot of women are more comfortable with learning in that type of environment - women only," instructor Diane Martinez said, "We also teach other classes that involve anybody that want to come, but this one, we just wanted to kind of take a stab and see if there was interest in just women only."
Successful completion of a Hunter Education course is required for all hunters in Wyoming born after 1966. Martinez said the starting age for those taking the course is around eight years old, but anyone can take it.
"As long as you're able to take the exam at the end and answer the questions on your own, then as young as what your mind can comprehend," Martinez said.
