Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney says her vote to impeach President Donald Trump was done so with a heavy heart, but said she had no choice. During a news conference with Wyoming reporters on Wednesday, Cheney said there were troops in the Capitol building while the House considered impeachment and she was struck by the enormity of it all.
"It's a moment of real peril, it's a moment for all of us to recognize that our republic is very fragile and that we all have an obligation to ensure that we are doing everything that we're compelled to do by our oaths," said Cheney.
She said she has heard from some Wyoming republicans who were concerned with her decision, but she said it was the right thing to do.
"You know the President of the United States inciting a mob to attack the Capitol to interrupt a democratic process and then while the violence played out, refusing to take steps to stop it is in my mind, absolutely high crimes and misdemeanors," said Cheney.
