Four Groups Join Wyoming to Appeal Yellowstone Grizzly Bear Decision

A week after the state of Wyoming filed a notice of appeal a judge's decision to put the Yellowstone grizzly bear back on Endangered Species Act protections, other defendants have followed.

The National Rifle Association, the Safari Club International, the Sportsmen's Alliance Foundation and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation all filed a notice of appeal Thursday. These groups along with the state of Wyoming are planning to appeal a U.S. District Judge's decision in September to put the grizzly back under endangered species act protection.

They want Wyoming to manage the bear. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service who was the main defendant in the case still has not filed an appeal, but it has till December 24 to do so. Plaintiffs say the appeal is unlikely to be upheld by the court unless the service joins in.
