Leaders from Campbell County have formed a taskforce to work on the formation of a new community college district that would just include Gillette College.

The taskforce was created after disagreements about the budget cuts made by the Northern Wyoming Community College District. The district is currently made up of Sheridan College, Gillette College and Sheridan College in Johnson County.

The taskforce It includes representatives from the community, county, state legislative and college.

Many in Campbell County were displeased there weren't more perspectives included in the board of trustee's decision to cut athletics. The board of trustees is made up of people from Sheridan County only, though Gillette College has a non-voting representative from the Gillette College Advisory Board attend meetings.

By statute, the county must submit signatures of 500 people as part of the application to form a new district to the Wyoming Community Commission. The petition in Campbell County was verified to have more than 500 signatures.

The taskforce is waiting on guidance from the state community college commission while putting together all necessary elements required by statute.

County Administrative Director and taskforce member Carol Seeger said the group met for the first time this past week.

"[We] Talked about the way of moving forward, what to do in light of the fact there isn't a clear guidance from the community college commission," she said.

Seeger said the taskforce will likely be meeting weekly.
