The University of Wyoming’s Fay Whitney School of Nursing has been chosen to participate in a $3 million initiative aimed at transforming nursing education. The initiative is called the Future of Nursing State Implementation Program. UW School of Nursing Dean Mary Burman says the effort is intended to address issues that include health care access, quality and cost. Burman says in Wyoming, they will look at three key issues.
“We are focusing on the one about transforming nursing education, we are also doing leadership development of nurses, so that we can get them at the right tables, the key tables in the state to address these complicated health care issues. And then we are also doing work related to workforce data, so that we have a better sense of nursing and health care. Who’s there working and what are their backgrounds?” says Burman.
The school will be eligible for two one-year grants of up to $150,000 each to accomplish their objectives. Burman says the initiative should improve health care in Wyoming.
