The Sheridan County School District #2 Board of Trustees announced on Monday, Feb. 1, that current Assistant Superintendent Scott Stults will take over for retiring, longtime superintendent Craig Dougherty on July 1.
Stults has been with the Sheridan School District since 1998 and has been in education for 33 years. He was selected from among 33 applicants and was the only local candidate among the three finalists for the position.
Stults said the interview process was extensive, but his 22-year tenure in the district serving as both a principal and administrator gave him a leg up.
"I believe that that absolutely helped me to provide and to help project, what are some things that can be immediately implemented to enhance and increase our trajectory," he said.
As superintendent, Stults wants to focus on supporting teachers and staff in professional development and how that translates to the classroom.
"Professional development must be directly aligned with those things that we're doing well so that it can be immediately implemented into the classroom and directly impact student learning. And our data helps drive whether those strategies are working or not," he said.
Stults added that teachers working together to collaborate on learning is highly important to him as well.
He said he's humbled to have been selected and will be working with Dougherty over the next few months to ensure a smooth transition.
