State Senator Lynn Hutchings of Cheyenne has been accused by the group Wyoming Equality of comparing homosexuality with bestiality and pedophilia. It came during a conversation with Cheyenne Central High School students at the legislature earlier this month.
The students were part of the school's gay-straight alliance and were there lobbying for a bill protecting LGBTQ workers against discrimination. Hutchings, who has made provocative comments about LGBTQ people in the past, denied the comments on Facebook. Her supporters say that she was simply saying she does not believe that LGBTQ people should be a protected class.
The group Wyoming Equality has written a letter to Senate President Drew Perkins and legislative leadership demanding an apology and a clarification that Hutchings behavior was unacceptable and inappropriate.
