Gov. Mark Gordon has announced new public health orders that will ease restrictions to some businesses like restaurants, gyms, and salons.
Starting Friday, May 13, restaurants across the state will be able to offer outdoor and indoor dining. However, that comes with conditions: staff that come within six feet of customers or other staff must wear face coverings; tables must be at least six feet apart; tables must be limited to groups of six people, preferably of the same household.
During a press conference, Gordon called it an exciting time for the state, but also a cautionary time.
"This is not a 'hold my beer' moment. This is a 'let's do this carefully and make sure we don't lose the ground we've gained,'" he explained.
The new orders also ease restrictions to other public gatherings, including movie theaters, and performance venues. For instance, the number of people in a confined area at any time must be limited to allow for adequate distancing between groups.
However, churches, faith-based organizations,and funeral homes are exempt in some ways?—they may allow gatherings of more than 25 people, provided they follow certain guidelines.
Additionally, gyms may now offer personal training, and group workout classes for fewer than 25 people can begin again.
During the press conference, Gordon also said $17 million from the CARES Act will go towards expanding COVID-19 testing, improving contact tracing, and adding to the state's supply of personal protective equipment.
