Wyoming Democrats Elect New Leader

After a year of turmoil, the Wyoming Democratic Party has elected a new chairman. Former State Representative Joe Barbuto will replace Ana Cupril.

During the 2016 Presidential election, the party became divided after Hillary Clinton was awarded the state primary despite Bernie Sanders winning the popular vote during last year’s party caucuses.

Barbuto says the party needs to move forward and many newcomers give him hope.

“They don’t like what’s happening with Republicans in Cheyenne or Washington D.C. and they’re ready to make a change. They are fired up, there’s a lot of energy there, and I think our role as an executive committee is to help county parties harness that energy and to use it to carry us forward.”

Barbuto is also looking to develop a strategic plan to guide the party as it plans for the 2018 election.
