The season is over for the Wyoming Cowboys basketball team. Western Michigan defeated Wyoming 75-67 in the College Basketball Invitational.
The Cowboys had a chance to ice the game, but Wyoming’s Josh Adams made only one of two free throws, allowing the Broncos’ David Brown to tie the game with a three-point shot in the closing seconds and send the game into overtime.
In overtime, the Broncos pulled away.
After the game, Wyoming Sophomore Larry Nance Junior gave Brown credit for making a tough shot.
“That was just a good shot by them,” said Nance. “We had our defensive execution and a hand in their face and as Nathan Sobey showed us last weekend, sometimes those shots go in. And I mean props to him for that shot, but we were there.”
The loss ends the Cowboys season, but senior Guard Derrious Gilmore says that Wyoming basketball is heading in the right direction.
“We had a long year, we fought through a lot of adversity, things didn’t end the way that we wanted them to, but we got a lot of great memories and a lot of great things to look back on,” Gilmore said. “And you see the direction that Cowboy basketball is going in and the fans and everyone should get behind them and continue to support them.”
Head Coach Larry Shyatt praised his team’s seniors and agreed that the program has come a long ways from the 10 wins and 21 losses team he inherited two years ago.
Wyoming ends its season with 20 wins and 14 losses.
