Health Officials Worry About COVID-19 Spread As New Cases Are Reported

The Wyoming Department of Health says a third case of COVID-19 was identified in Sheridan County. The Department says the man was linked to a Sheridan County woman who was the state's first case. The Department says the man was visiting Colorado and tested positive there.

Saturday, the Department of Health indicated that an older man, the state's second reported case of the novel coronavirus, who was found to have the virus at the Showboat Retirement Center in Lander has been moved to Sage West Health Care for treatment.

Dr. Alexia Harrist, the state health officer and epidimeiologist said state and county public health officials are worried about a local community spread at both facilities. She said officials are "conducting interviews at both facilities, and will recommend testing and other actions needed to help protect residents, patients and staff."

"We're reminding everyone to do their part," Harrist said in a news release. "Take common sense steps to avoid sharing your germs with others, especially with those who are more vulnerable to serious illness."

Gov. Mark Gordon declared a state of emergency for COVID-19 on Friday and urged people to avoid large gatherings. A number of facilities and organizations are announcing policies to combat the illness and the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees scheduled a Monday meeting to discuss what steps UW can take.

The Casper Star Tribune is reporting that Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas has tested a man who had COVID-19 symptoms. They are awaiting test results from the Dept. of Health.
