A Wyoming legislative committee will decide if it wants to reconsider the powers and duties of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction this Friday. 

State Superintendent Cindy Hill returned to lead the Department of Education this week, after the Wyoming Supreme Court ruled that a law stripping her ability to oversee the department was unconstitutional. 

Governor Matt Mead says he doesn’t know what the legislative committee will try to do.

“You know it’s not about individuals, it’s not about politics, it’s truly about an education system that I think the goal should be second to none.”

The governor added that the committee should take the time to decide what is best for Wyoming education.

“We have to say…where should be go? And it’s a great opportunity for the legislature to debate that and for the public to debate it.  Everything we do in the state, and in particular with regard to education, we need to make sure that we have a system that provides the best opportunity of success for our students.”

Mead admits that he did like having a Director who took focused approach towards improving education in the state.  The committee meets Friday in Cheyenne.
