Taylar Stagner
Tribal/Rural BureauTaylar Dawn Stagner is a central Wyoming rural and tribal reporter for Wyoming Public Radio. She has degrees in American Studies, a discipline that interrogates the history and culture of America. She was a Native American Journalist Association Fellow in 2019, and won an Edward R. Murrow Award for her Modern West podcast episode about drag queens in rural spaces in 2021. Stagner is Arapaho and Shoshone.
She lives in Riverton Wyoming, where she grew up on a cattle ranch with her dog. She loves bad films and video games.

Jordan Dresser was on the Northern Arapaho Business Council as chairman for two years. He has developed quite the resume. He was appointed to a federal solutions committee, named one of the young leaders in Indian Country at large, and he’s a filmmaker. However, he was not reelected to the council. Wyoming Public Radio’s Taylar Stagner caught up with Dresser in a Lander coffee shop to find out what’s next for him.

The tribes on the Wind River Reservation have been doing regular food drives since 2020. Until this past fall, they didn’t know what food they would receive from their partners like the Food Bank of Wyoming and The Food Bank of the Rockies. But they made a point to create this communication so they can plan better.

The Peabody Museum at Harvard University has a collection of hair samples taken from Indigenous people. Much of the collection is from Indigenous children who were forced to attend Indian boarding schools. The collection has samples from both Arapaho and Shoshone peoples.

Vaping and e-cigarettes have increased in popularity in recent years, largely due to the misconception that they are healthier than cigarettes. University of Wyoming researcher Guanglong He is looking into how vaping can cause cardiac failure. Wyoming Public Radio’s Taylar Stagner talked with He about his ongoing research.

Casper voted on Tuesday, Dec. 6, to add protections against discrimination to their municipal code. The council voted 8-1 to pass the policy.

Talks of getting a new riverfront recreation area in Mills have been in the works since 2014. The city just approved a bid putting sewer and water lines into the proposed area to make it more hospitable to potential investors.

The Riverton Peace Mission's winter clothes drive provided around 50 people with items like coats, sleeping bags, and winter weather gear. It was the first time the Riverton Peace Mission held a clothes drive. Carol Harper helped collect donations and said the recent death of a community member made their group want to take action.
