A bill that would require people receiving state benefits to be drug tested has received initial support in the Wyoming House of Representatives. Bill Sponsor David Miller of Riverton says the measure is intended to help addicts.
“It’s not a really complex bill," Miller said. "We made it as simple as possible, we made it as simple as possible for people to get help if they positive with drugs, to get in a program and then when they produce a clean drug test they can get these benefits for their family.”
The bill was amended to protect the benefits of household members who did not fail the drug test. Still, many questioned the constitutionality of the bill and objected to the assumption that those getting benefits might be drugusers. House Bill 82 will be debated two more times.
