Elephants and Mountains--A talk about growing up in Kenya, saving elephants and climbing mountains - Jackson
Famous climber and Kenya guide, Iain Allan, will talk about elephant conservation in Tsavo National Parks in Kenya on Tuesday, June 3rd, in the Goldpiece of the Wort Hotel. Allan, a prolific mountain climber who has put up over one hundred routes on Mount Kenya, has lived in East Africa since he was nine years old. His knowledge of both the bush and the mountains of Kenya is extensive.
Growing up during the 1960s and 1970s in Kenya, Iain witnessed the country change from being a British colony to becoming an independent African nation, and as many white settlers packed up and left, he became a Kenyan citizen making the country his permanent home. He watched as animal conservation took a back seat to the development of an independent nation.
Iain will be talking about elephant conservation as well as his recent best-selling memoir, Outsider. He will also speak about the mountains of East Africa, the challenges of modern conservation in Africa, and how one can safely balance 'adventure' and 'risk' in the African bush.
