Uinta County School District #1 is once again discussing whether to allow teachers and staff to carry guns in schools.
Last year the Uinta #1 school board voted to allow teachers and staff to conceal carry, but that decision was blocked by Sweetwater County Judge Nena James. She ruled that the school board didn't comply with the Wyoming Administrative Procedure Act, which requires a 45-day public notice before final action is taken on new rules and regulations.
Uinta One's Superintendent Ryan Thomas said it was the school board's understanding that the administrative procedure act pertained to state agencies, and not local agencies like schools.
The district's second attempt to pass a concealed carry policy is now underway. Thomas said this time the school board offered a 55 day public comment period and two public hearings. The board will now review the material in preparation for a vote in April.
