A conversation about greenhouse gas regulations is needed, says WY lawmaker

Rep. Mary Throne
Legislative Service Office
Rep. Mary Throne

At today’s energy law conference in Laramie, one Wyoming lawmaker urged the state to be proactive in the discussion about greenhouse gas regulations.

Representative Mary Throne said the notion that we can stop using coal is unrealistic but added that “equally unrealistic in my mind is the notion that we can ignore the realities of what the rest of the world thinks, and the rest of the country thinks about greenhouse gas emission. So I would hope that our leader in the legislature, our governor, and our congressional delegation would start looking at realistic policy objectives for regulating greenhouse gas emissions.”

The Environmental Protection Agency is currently working on regulations for emissions from existing coal-fired power plants that has coal producers on edge.

Throne said that she doesn’t think the Clean Air Act should be used to address greenhouse gas emissions, but the state should participate in an honest conversation about greenhouse gas pollution.
