Wyoming offers incentives to stop chewing tobacco

This week is Wyoming’s annual “Through with Chew Week,” a campaign to get people to stop chewing tobacco. Wyoming has the nation’s highest rate of smokeless tobacco use among adults. And a 2011 study shows that 1 in 5 Wyoming high school boys chewed.
Wyoming Department of Health Spokesperson Kim Deti says the Wyoming Quit Tobacco Program provides folks who want to quit with an important support system—and maybe even some free gas. "The help we offer includes things like really generous financial help that helps pay for the cost of the medications that can help people quit," says Deti, "and free supportive services such as counseling or coaching.
During February we are offering a little incentive, if you call or log in during this month you’ll be entered to win a gas card worth $200 hundred dollars."
Deti says there’s growing concern about tobacco ads that falsely market chew as a safe alternative to smoking, which has resulted in many people using both products.
Wyoming residents interested in help quitting any form of tobacco can call 1-800-QUIT-NOW or log on to wy.quitnet.com to enroll.
