Since health officials are asking residents to practice social distancing and avoid gathering in groups of more than 10 people, a conservation group has decided to host its regular spring clean-up differently this year.
The Sheridan Community Land Trust will be hosting the clean-up of local trails and parks virtually.
Chris Vrba with the Land Trust said they're asking people across Sheridan County to get outside over the next week and do spring cleaning amongst themselves.
"Grab a trash bag, grab some gloves and go out to your favorite trail or park or city pathway or roadside or stream bank and go ahead and pick up as much trash as you can for a little or as long as you like," Vrba said.
The Land Trust will be awarding gift certificates to be used at local Sheridan businesses for most trash collected, best costume and one randomly drawn participant.
"Normally we'd be doing these clean-ups right now. We don't see any reason not to do the clea- ups. We just can't get together at the same place at the same time, not safely. So that's the virtual part of the party," he said.
Vrba said to take a photo with your trash and tag the Sheridan Community Land Trust on Facebook or to use the hashtag #scltyourtrails on Instagram to be entered. The virtual event will run from Saturday, March 28 through Saturday, April 4.
Vrba said people outside of Sheridan County are welcome to share photos as well, though the prizes are still geared towards local businesses.
"Using those Chamber bucks, it's also an opportunity for those helping the community to go ahead and give back to the community while they're working," he said.
The city of Sheridan added two dumpsters across from the Kendrick Park Pool to drop off collected garbage. If recycling is collected, that can be dropped off at recycling bins around town.
