Wyoming’s largest utility pledged Monday to cut its carbon emissions and invest in renewable energy.
Rocky Mountain Power signed onto the White House initiative through its parent company, Berkshire Hathaway Energy. The pledge is part of the Obama administration's push to get American businesses to support action on climate change in advance of the Paris climate negotiations later this year. A dozen other major U.S. companies joined Berkshire Hathaway, including Bank of America, Coca-Cola, GM and Microsoft.
In a statement, Rocky Mountain Power CEO Cindy Crane said the pledge is another step in “an ongoing commitment towards a low-carbon, sustainable future.”
As part of the White House initiative, the company says it's planning to add more wind and solar and invest in better transmission infrastructure in the west.
Berkshire Hathaway was the only energy company to sign the pledge.
