Workshops Look To Boost Community Involvement In Cody

This fall, the Wyoming Business Council hosted community review meetings in Cody. The goal was to target what residents wanted to improve in the community.

Now with the information collected, the Wyoming Business Council is asking Cody residents to come together and work on seven themes that were identified. On January 29 and 30, the public is welcome to participate in strategic doing workshops. That means members of the public who are invested in a certain theme, like outdoor recreation or air service, will meet once a month and work on small goals.

Amy Quick, the northwest regional director at Wyoming Business Council, said an example of a goal is year-round delta air service.

"So each person kind of says, 'Okay, I can work on this. I can contact so and so, or I can collect this data', and you come back together and share that information and then for next month, we're going to do these things. It's kind of that old saying, how do you eat an elephant one bite at a time," said Quick.

The themes are broad, but Quick said that will be addressed in the first meetings.

"We're going to chunk out a big thing, because planned growth or year-round economy, those seem pretty huge and daunting," she said. "We're going to find little pieces that we can start to work towards that bigger goal."

Quick said the aim is to accomplish goals as community without a time restraint and engage the community. Other themes include workforce, the amenities, housing and planned growth. Both meetings will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the Cody Auditorium. The seven themes are divided between the two days.
