Around Wyoming, Wednesday, May 28

A new film tells the success story of the Red Desert pronghorn. WyoFile reports roughly 43% of the herd was killed by the winter of 2022-23. But the die off led to research and a project that replaced 23 miles of fence with wildlife-friendly fencing. Filmmaker Patrick Rodgers documented the grassroots effort to help the herd recover. He says the film is a feel-good, successful conservation outcome that matches the character of the pronghorn.

A Jackson atelier is among five finalists for the Outstanding Bakery James Beard Award. Buckrail reports Chef Oscar Ortega heard the news from chef friends sending him congratulatory messages. Winners will be announced in mid-June.

Powell High School robotics has been busy. The Powell Tribune reports teams Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly and Squiggle Splat Bang competed in an international competition in mid-April. Then, upon their return home, Squiggle Splat Bang started SSB Robotics. The nonprofit is aimed at helping underserved or underfunded robotics teams in Wyoming access resources.

And, the local Elizabeth Ramsey Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently celebrated its 100th anniversary.
