Internships available at Wyoming Public Media!
Wyoming Public Media welcomes students to consider internship opportunities at WPM. Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. Internships are designed to establish a meaningful and positive internship experience for the student. The internships enable students to understand how a public radio station operates and how to relate this experience to academic and professional goals. WPM internships are unpaid, for-credit opportunities.

News Internships at Wyoming Public Media
The Wyoming Public Media’s internship program is intended to provide students with the opportunity to observe and participate in the daily activities of a modern public radio newsroom, with the goal of acquiring the skills needed for journalism employment.
The intern must be available for a minimum of 10 hours per week to participate in the program.
Students are able to get credit for the internship if their school allows it. The internship is unpaid.
An intern will gain real, in-person experience in a newsroom and leave the internship with published stories on wyomingpublicmedia.org that can be used for portfolios.
Internship tracks:
There are three internship tracks with the news department, focusing on: general assignment, state government and wildfire/climate reporting.
All tracks involve an editor assigning stories and the intern preparing it from beginning to on-air and online publication. There will also be occasional opportunities for interns to pitch their own story ideas. Work includes researching stories, finding sources, conducting interviews, writing copy, editing sound bites, mixing audio and preparing the story for on-air broadcast and web posting. The intern will also be encouraged to pitch and produce a long-form feature audio story by the end of the program.
The state government and wildfire/climate reporting tracks will produce stories specifically within these beats.
Opportunities:
We offer three internship time frames. We accept two interns for each.
Fall internship (September - mid-December)
- Deadline to apply: August 10
Spring internship (January - mid-May)

Summer internship (June - mid-August)

To apply for a Wyoming Public Media news internship, send your resume and a cover letter with “INTERNSHIP” in the subject line to wyomingpublicradio@gmail.com. Please be sure to include your preferred internship semester, dates of availability, and the track in which you are most interested.
Your cover letter should explain what you hope to get out of the internship and describe any journalism or writing experience you have.
After the application deadline passes, the newsroom will reach out to schedule a 20-minute virtual interview if we think you are potentially a good fit. You will be assigned a prompt to assess your writing, news judgment and deadline skills.
