Wyoming Medicare Recipients Will Get New Cards

DHHS

Eligible Wyoming residents will be getting new Medicare cards in the mail this week.

Dennis Delpizzo of the Regional Office of the Department of Health and Human Services said the new cards should be more secure.

"The main effort here was to remove the social security number from the Medicare cards as the identifier and to replace it with a randomly assigned, unique identifier to each individual. And that becomes the new Medicare card with the new Medicare number.”

Delpizzo said people may start using the card as soon as they get it and should destroy their previous one. He urged people to be wary of scams where someone may try and get their new Medicare number over the phone. He said no official will ever make that request.
