State Senator Curt Meier won the Republican primary for Wyoming State Treasurer defeating fellow Senator Leland Christensen by five percent. With no Democratic candidate for treasurer, he’s entering November’s general election unopposed.
Meier, who has a background in farming and business, has served in the Wyoming Senate since 1995. He said he has been tracking legislative efforts to diversify the economy and generate additional revenue, which he plans to follow through on when he takes office.
“But the first thing that I want to make sure that I do is a full forensic audit of all of the accounts, all of the funds, all of the contracts so that I don’t have any surprises when I walk in the door,” said Meier.
Meier said that through better handling of the state’s investments he hopes to generate between $300 and $400 million to balance the budget and support K-12 education.
