Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon asked the legislature's Joint Appropriations Committee to fund a $10 million carbon capture test project. Gordon said the money would be provided to the University of Wyoming's School of Energy Resources.
"To construct a five-megawatt equivalent pilot project using enhanced coal-based technology that captures at least 75-percent of the carbon emissions," said Gordon.
The governor said it's an important advance in technology, and he's hopeful it will help the state's coal industry. The money would be used to try and acquire an additional $40 million from the U.S. Department of Energy for another project that would be connected with the Integrated Test Center in Gillette.
It was part of an overall $21 million request by the governor that would also provide $10 million in funding for the Wyoming Wildlife Natural Resource Trust and some money to address noxious weeds and predator control.
