Equality State Policy Center Will Focus On Importance Of Women Voting In Live Event

Equality State Policy Center

The Equality State Policy Center, a nonpartisan advocacy group, is holding a live event to discuss the power of women voting. It will host Wyoming women political leaders on Thursday, July 16.

The Center is taking July to focus on women's leadership and the complicated history of women's suffrage in Wyoming.

Jen Simon, the group's senior policy advisor, said women's suffrage didn't grant everyone the right to vote so this panel hopes to talk about the barriers to universal female suffrage in history and the ones that still exist.

"They can also speak to the fact that when we address them, enact systems that make it possible for more people to vote and have access to voting, and the more people who do show up to vote, and more voter turnout really is better for democracy," said Simon

Simon said Colorado is a good example of how high voter turnout, high engagement, and low barriers to voting can lead to more diverse leadership.

"We want to talk about where we've been, where we are, where we're going, and ways to ensure that our elected leadership better reflects and represents the people of the Equality State," said Simon.

The panelists include the founder of a national nonpartisan women's representation organization, an expert on election administration and policy, Wyoming representative Andi Clifford and Marguerite Herman with the League of Women Voters of Wyoming. The event will take place Thursday at 5 p.m. on Zoom.
