This Wednesday, an activist organization will host a march to raise awareness about immigrant rights. It's called "ICE on Trial," and it's the fourth year the group Juntos has hosted such an event. Director Antonio Serrano said the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has increased the number of arrests of undocumented immigrants in Wyoming.
"Here in Cheyenne, we lose an average of one person a week. In Jackson, they're hit every other week. And they're losing about three to five people each time," said Serrano. "ICE is kind of wreaking havoc in the immigrant community here in Wyoming, and it's all happening in the shadows."
He said, that's left many immigrants living in fear of deportation. But Serrano said, immigrants are woven into Wyoming's way of life.
"No matter where you're at, there's a ranch where there's an immigrant working, and the rancher respects that person and doesn't want to see that person taken away. I mean, we're just as much a part of Wyoming as anyone else," Serrano said.
The march starts at 4 p.m. in front of the Governor's Office in Cheyenne before heading through the streets to the ICE office where community leaders will speak and share their experiences.
