Casper to improve safety and accessibility for cyclists and pedestrians

The Metropolitan Planning Committee for the city of Casper and surrounding areas is looking to make roads safer and more accessible for cyclists and pedestrians and is inviting the public to contribute ideas and comments.

The proposed plans include the creation of new walking and biking paths, the extension of existing paths, painting bike lanes on roadways, improving signage, and revising intersection markings. Project analyst, David Hough, says in addition to safety, the project’s goal is to make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to get where they’re going.

“Certainly one of the most important aspects of the project is to make it safer for people to get around town on foot or on a bicycle” said Hough. “we also are wanting to provide better connections with key locations within the community.”

The college and downtown areas, schools, parks, residential areas, and employment centers were mentioned by Hough as areas that could be more accessible.

The public is invited to review maps and materials related to the project at Casper’s City Hall this Thursday afternoon from four-thirty to six.

The plan will be put before Casper’s City Council this November.

Originally from Chester County, PA, Jordan Harper comes to us by way of the South Carolina Low-Country and Coastal Carolina University. He is a junior majoring in journalism and hopes to one day become a reporter. When not in the office or in the classroom, Jordan enjoys the occasional yoga session and playing rugby with the University's club team. A life long NPR listener and avid WPR fan since first landing in Laramie, Harper begrudgingly admitted to being somewhat star-struck upon his first tour of Laramie's WPR facility.
