Cody police looking for leads in child abduction case

Police say an 11-year-old girl from Cody who was the subject of an Amber Alert was sexually assaulted.

Cody Police Chief Perry Rockvam says the girl was coerced into a van at the Park County Complex at about 4:30 Monday afternoon.  The girl was later found walking down a nearby mountain road by a group of hunters.

Authorities say that the man who abducted the girl sexually assaulted her.   Rockvam says they are still looking for the suspect.

He is a white male, 6-1 to 6-2, stocky build, white short hair and white trimmed beard.  There is an update and change on the vehicle description.  It was a white SUV, possibly a suburban .  It had two seats in the front and was open in the back.

Rockvam says the man was wearing a brown shirt, blue jeans and a tan baseball cap.  The girl was taken to the Carter mountain area and they are hopeful that someone saw the vehicle.

He adds that the F-B-I and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation have been called in to assist.   He says anyone with information should contact the Cody Police Department.
