A New State Librarian For Wyoming

The new Wyoming State Librarian position has been filled by Jamie Markus who's been serving as the interim librarian for over a year now. The appointment comes in the midst of state budget discussions, but Markus said he still hopes to complete several current projects that will ultimately help improve the resources provided by local public and school libraries throughout the state.

"Over the past year we have seen as high as 45 percent budget cut in the Carbon County, to, you know, just a few libraries actually taking a slight increase. The beauty of our system is that we share and love to do so," Markus said.

All this sharing of information could also improve the WYLD network's statewide catalog, expand the number of state publications, and increase the accessibility of library resources for Wyomingites.

"In particular we will be doing our best to support local libraries as they take their budget cuts, so we can support their infrastructure, so that residents of the state can continue to see the superior service that they expect from their libraries," Markus said.

Markus has worked for the State Library for eleven years now.
