Rostros migrantes (Migrant Faces): Humanizing Migrants' Voices through Art & Narrative - Laramie

Rostros migrantes (Migrant Faces): Humanizing Migrants' Voices through Art & Narrative - Laramie

In this presentation, Mexican artist Derli Romero will describe his motivation and the process that resulted in his artistic work Rostros migrantes (2019). His project encompasses the testimonies of migrants from different countries passing through Mexico. Using a lithographic technique, he printed their stories on silhouettes made from the immigrants’ clothing after exchanging these for new clothing.

Romero’s work links timely connections between art and social justice as he presents his prints, writing, and artistic process. The underlying theory of this project is that human identity is inscribed on their profile. The micronarratives express suffering and the small joys they find along the way. Rostros migrantes is a continuation of Romero’s artwork to address social issues.
