According to the Wyoming Historical Society, on May 25, 1909, the U.S. Reclamation Service began selling lots in Powell. It was regarded by locals as the founding of the town. On May 25, 1930, Fred E. Holdrege, who was the manager of the Washakie Hotel Company on Hot Springs State Park, announced he was installing a miniature golf course. It was the third to be built in the state. On May 27, 1868, bloody noses resulted when “a couple of pugilistic individuals tried their muscle” in a Cheyenne saloon. On May 27, 1944, Roy Rogers bought a stand-in for his horse Trigger for $2,000 from a Lusk man. On May 29, 1890, census enumerators were named for Wyoming. Citizens were warned to be “prepared to tell all.” On May 30, 1903, President Teddy Roosevelt visited Cheyenne. On May 31, 1834, William Sublette, Robert Campbell, and a party of fur traders laid the foundations for Fort William, which was soon better known as Fort Laramie, near the junction of the Laramie and North Platte rivers.
