According to the Wyoming Historical Society, on December 8, 1875, Johnson and Crook Counties were created. On December 8, 1890, the owner of a Casper meat market gave his household furniture and wife to the town blacksmith. We aren’t sure why. On December 9, 1890, the bills to admit Idaho and Wyoming as states were introduced in the U.S. Senate. On December 9, 1932, the first aerial motion pictures of Devils Tower were made. December 10, 1869, was the last day of the state’s first legislative assembly. Wyoming Territorial Gov. John Campbell signed legislation giving women the right to vote. That same day, Cheyenne was approved as the territorial capital. On December 11, 1887, Green River City dropped “City” to become just “Green River.” On December 13, 1914, “Toy-land” opened at the Bee Hive. It was the largest collection of toys ever seen in Cheyenne. On December 14, 1871, Wyoming’s second territorial legislature nearly did away with votes for women, which had been passed two years before. Lawmakers voted to repeal, but Gov. John Campbell vetoed the move. The legislature failed by just one vote to override his veto.
