The Powell Economic Partnership is the first organization in the state to be part of the EPA’s Recreation Economy for Rural Communities planning assistance program. The group was one of 25 to be selected out of a pool of about 200 this year.

The city council recently approved the the completion of a new master plan for the city's walking and biking pathways network, which currently consists of about 80 miles throughout parts of the city. The plan seeks to grow that number by over 70 miles of additional pathways to connect areas that are underserved or not connected to the existing system. It's proven to be a popular feature that has attracted people to Gillette.
