Wyoming’s highways rank third in the nation in performance and efficiency. That’s according to an annual highway report by the Reason Foundation, a non-profit think tank that studies public policy. Author David Hartgen says Wyoming gets a lot less money than other states, but spends it well.
“It isn’t how much you got it’s what you do with it. Particularly early maintenance and treatment of problems before they get to be serious, catching roads and bridges at the seven and six level before they get to the four and the three, so that those bigger repair bills don’t hit you later which are much more difficult to deal with,” says Hartgen.
Hartgen is concerned with the state’s high ranking in highway fatalities. He says that is something Wyoming needs to improve.
