Sublette County group tries to reduce tobacco use

As part of the National Kick Butts day, Wyoming Prevention Management Organization of Sublette County will hold an educational fair at the Pinedale Recreation & Aquatic Center to educate the community about the harmful effects of smoking.

Federal statistics show that in Wyoming, tobacco use claims 700 lives and costs $136 million in health care bills each year.  Sublette County Prevention Coalition member Ranae  Pape says they have particular problems with smokeless tobacco use in their county.  She hopes that prevention efforts like this one will make a difference.

“It just starts with our youth, it starts with educating them to be conscious about our life, not today or tomorrow, but 80 years down the road.”

Pape says there is certainly a tobacco culture in their part of the state and she hopes education will change that.  The event begins Wednesday/Today at three.
