From immigration policy to environmental regulations to sexual harassment, Law Week at the University of Wyoming tackles timely and contentious legal topics. Starting October 16, the week of panel discussions hosted at the College of Law is open to the public.

Allison Connell, from the Women’s Law Forum, helped to organize a panel called “Let’s Talk Title IX.” She said administrators, attorneys and advocates from UW and Laramie County Community College will discuss Title IX's purpose and its implementation on university campuses. They will also talk about new federal guidelines recently issued under Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, and the pros and cons of those changes.

“This isn’t from one side or the other, or these people are always hurt, that’s why we are bringing it up,” said Connell. “It’s much more of a general full-circle discussion.”

She said the goal of the panel is to explore how Title IX could best serve victims and the accused in campus sexual assault and harassment cases.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to provide a robust full discussion as it affects all people involved,” said Connell. “Not just coming from someone’s eyes saying this is where the gaps are, or this is who is usually hurt.”
