Relative Theatrics presents BRILLIANT TRACES by Cindy Lou Johnson
Relative Theatrics, in partnership with United Way of Albany County, is proud to present the mystical and touching play BRILLIANT TRACES by Cindy Lou Johnson. The remount of their inaugural 2013 production serves as the opener to Relative Theatrics’ 10th Season. The play runs October 28th through November 5th with audience members sitting on the stage of the LPCC Gryphon Theatre. The production is directed by Kim Lockhart and features Will Bowling and Anne Mason. This richly imaginative play “uses fantastic situations and characterizations to probe into the nature of modern relationships.”
BRILLIANT TRACES, which was written in 1989, takes place in a remote cabin in the wilds of Alaska. As a blizzard rages outside, a lonely figure is awakened by the insistent knocking of an unexpected visitor. Both characters, it develops, have been wounded and embittered by life, and both are refugees from so-called civilization. Thrown together in the confines of the snowbound cabin, they alternately repel and attract each other as, in theatrically vivid exchanges, they explore the pain of the past and, in time, consider the possibilities of the present. BRILLIANT TRACES “deals with common issues of love and family, and does so with characters, story and dialogue so fantastic that they could exist only within the enchanted realm of the stage.” The play highlights the poignant ways in which, as humans, we are eternally connected to one another - the ways in which we are better together.
Content Warning: BRILLIANT TRACES is suitable for adult audiences and includes content that some viewers may find challenging, including fight choreography, simulated physical intimacy, alcohol consumption, and discussion of grief and mental health challenges.
BRILLIANT TRACES is supported in part by Albany County ARPA funding, Albany County and City of Laramie Community Partner Funds, and the Wyoming Arts Council, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Wyoming Legislature. Opening night is sponsored by UniWyo Federal Credit Union.
