A group that lobbies to keep religion out of government is hoping to start a chapter in Wyoming.
Spokeswoman Lauren Anderson Youngblood with the Secular Coalition for America says they’re worried that lawmakers in Wyoming and various other states are considering legislation that would undermine the separation of church and state.
“We have seen attempts to ban same-sex marriage that has been performed out of state, from being recognized in the state of Wyoming, and again this is based on religion,” Youngblood said. “The Wyoming legislature uses state funds to employ a chaplain and open daily sessions of each house with a prayer.”
Youngblood says they’re not trying to undermine anyone’s religion, and she adds that their coalition has many religious members. They just don’t want religion in government.
The Coalition is hosting a conference call tomorrow at noon, and anyone interested in participating in a Wyoming chapter is invited to call in.
